John Milledge Announces Varsity Baseball and Softball Coaching Staff for 2017-18
BASEBALL COACHING STAFF
Andy Bonifay, a native of Sandersville, and graduate of Brentwood School will serve as the 2017-18 Trojans Varsity Baseball Coach. Walter Prestwood will continue to bring his experience to the Trojans as Assistant Coach.
As a senior, Bonifay was able to lead and contribute to Brentwood’s first baseball state title in school history in 2012. Bonifay earned a scholarship to pitch at Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida. After a year at Flagler College, he transferred to Piedmont College in Demorest, Georgia, where he continued his baseball career for two more seasons. During his final year in Demorest, Bonifay contributed to the Piedmont College baseball staff. Bonifay graduated from Piedmont College in December 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts in History Education and is excited to use his certification as a full-time teacher in the high school social studies department next year.
Bonifay has gained valuable experience coaching the East Cobb Patriots U16 team in the summer and fall of 2016. After one full year of coaching with the Patriots, the coaching staff and Bonifay have been able to guide two 2018 graduates to division one commitments in the early recruiting process.
Currently, Bonifay serves as the assistant coach for the Brentwood School Varsity Baseball team. In his first season coaching with the War Eagles, Bonifay has assisted a team with no seniors clinch their 10th straight state playoff appearance. He assists in all facets of the game, including the running game. This season, he has guided the Eagles to the most stolen bases in a season within the last decade.
Bonifay has been fortunate to be a part of a strong baseball family, including: the former general manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates and current Player Personnel of the Cincinnati Reds, two former professional scouts, four ex-professional baseball players, and a current Texas Rangers Field Operator, Outfielders and Base Running Coach.
Bonifay is excited to begin his Softball coaching career alongside a seasoned veteran.
